October 4, 2024, at the National University of Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) Headquarters: Lac Hong University (LHU), in collaboration with the VNU-HCM Center for Education Quality Accreditation, organized the workshop "AI Application in Education."  Representatives from Lac Hong University, including Rector Dr. Lam Thanh Hien, Dr. Le Phuong Truong, Head of Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance, and MSc. Ngo Dinh Hoang Diem, Deputy Head of Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance, attended the workshop alongside other universities in the Southern region.

Lac Hong University is honored to share this opportunity with over 120 researchers and lecturers from member universities of the VNU-HCM, Van Lang University, Van Hien University, the Open University, and Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine to attend the conference.

At the workshop, delegates listened to two presentations from Lac Hong University representatives on the topics of "Motivation for Change in Education with AI" by Dr. Lam Thanh Hien and "Effective Syntax for Using AI: Practical Integration of AI into Lectures" by Dr. Le Phuong Truong.

The presentation on "Motivation for Change in Education with AI" emphasized the importance of lectures adapting to the AI era, the responsibility of using AI effectively, and tailoring AI applications to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Popular generative AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Copilot, Google's Gemini, and Claude are capable of creating new content. ChatGPT, Edu AI, Invideo, and Piktochart were among the AI tools for education introduced by the LHU’s representatives.

The Impact of AI on Education:

  • Assessment of students' strengths and weaknesses, enabling tailored course design for individuals;
  • Simplification of daily administrative tasks;
  • Integration of virtual tutoring systems;
  • Significant transformation in the delivery of education;
  • Classroom integration, personalization, and support in educational management;
  • Addressing teacher shortages through AI, fostering competition in education;
  • AI as a key driver in shaping the future of education.

Dr. Lam Thanh Hien shared: “AI can personalize learning, automate administrative tasks (lesson planning, exam preparation), and support learners anytime, anywhere (via virtual tutors and trained chatbots). It also accelerates data analysis and trend identification in education, boosting productivity by 5-10 times—making its adoption indispensable.”

Challenges and Responsible AI Usage

One of the greatest challenges in education is academic integrity, along with data security and reinforcing the role of educators through compliance with regulations:

  • Establishing guidelines for AI use in educational institutions;
  • Adhering to AI regulations in research activities;
  • Upholding principles in AI research and development.

Dr. Le Phuong Truong emphasized the need to redesign assessment and evaluation methods to enhance teaching quality and ensure the institutional quality of education. This aligns with sustainable development goals in the digital age.
